DELHI IS DIFFERENT!

Arrived in Delhi yesterday after an overnight flight so we were both a little tired and certainly not prepared for the hustle and bustle and damn right danger of the traffic as we travelled from the airport to our hotel....oh an the bloody noise!!! We are both at a loss to understand why every Car, van, Bus and Motor cyclist (that's actually  Dad, Mum and two kids on the same bike in many cases) feels the need to use their horns incessantly...other drivers take no notice and join in and pedestrians don't seem to care as they take their life's into their hands dodging the traffic to cross the road....its insane! That said there are 21 million people in Delhi....just about the entire population of Australia and the infrastructure is just not there to support them (well not to the standards we would expect in the UK) an eye opener already!

Yesterdays first impression was smelly Dehli, we thought we would change our minds as we ventured out today...less tired after a good nights sleep. First stop a coffee bar around the corner, we thought it would be nice to have a take out and drink them in the park in the square....sat for 30 minutes in the sun and decided to head off out of the park ...guess what we came across...

This little girl sat on the floor looking after her baby sister. We guessed she was no more than 4 years old and the baby about 4 months at most! We both couldn't believe they were there on their own, certainly no sign of any parents. When we got talking to an Indian guy who was a professor of languages he said it was pretty normal and that the 4 years would have been taught what to do, as their mum would most likely me cleaning and washing in a nearby house and wouldn't be able to take them in with her so they would have to wait for her in the park. The baby didn't even have a nappy on and all the little girl had was a bottle of milk for the baby....OMG....how sad....I wanted to adopt them both.....
we wanted to adopt them both!

There is a lot of poverty in Delhi and acceptance of it is normal...that we are told is due to the cast system that they follow.......done a lot of walking today and got to say Dehli is dirty, smelly (men just seems to p.ss up walls in public on all the road sides ....it stinks when you pass it......guess there is a shortage of public toilets or they just don't care) its full of dingo style dogs...think they are so interbred they all look the same....this said we are having a good time so far embracing and understanding the culture as this is what this trip is all about for us!

OFF TO SHIMLA TOMORROW IN THE FOOTHILLS OF THE HIMALAYAS
